the 10th match of IPL T20 happened on 29th March 2024, between RCB and KKR, firstly; the toss was won by Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) captain Shreyas Iyer who chose to bowl first against Faf du Plessis’s Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024 match at the M.Chinnaswamy Stadium, Bengaluru on Friday.
the ruthless fifty by Venkatesh Iyer and an opening partnership between Sunil Narine and Phil Salt worked for Kolkata Knight Riders’ smooth seven-wicket victory over Royal Challengers Bengaluru in their IPL match on Friday.
Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) made a joke out of a target of 183 set for them by Royal Challengers Bengaluru at the Chinnaswamy Stadium, chasing the target down with seven wickets and 19 balls to spare. Virat Kohli batted through the innings and stayed unbeaten on 83 off 59 as RCB put up a target of 183 for KKR to chase. Openers Sunil Narine and Phil Salt then came in and upended whatever advantage RCB had. The pair smashed 85 runs in the powerplay alone, with Narine eventually falling for 47 off 22 balls. Salt also fell for 30 off 20 after which Venkatesh Iyer and Shreyas Iyer took over. Venkatesh returned to form with a 30-ball 50 and Shreyas hit the winning runs with a six, finishing unbeaten on 39 off 24 balls.
Bengaluru’s captain Faf du Plessis fell early but the hosts managed to get off to a strong start largely thanks to the star of the match our very own King Kohli. He, along with Cameron Green, ensured that RCB scored 61 runs in the powerplay. Kohli then cruised past a half-century for the second consecutive time this season. The partnership between the two ended on 65 off 42 balls when Green fell to Andre Russell on 31 off 21. His Australia teammate Glenn Maxwell then finally found his touch after two poor outings in RCB’s last two games, thanks in part to KKR fielders dropping two straightforward catches off him. Maxwell’s luck ran out in the 15th over after he had scored 28 off 19 balls.
Harshit Rana and Andre Russell then led the way as KKR managed to largely restrict RCB in the death overs. They hit 16 runs off the last over from Starc and Kohli stayed unbeaten on 83 off 59. Dinesh Karthik hit 20 runs in eight balls and was run out off the last ball and RCB’s innings ended on a score of 182/6.
It was an emphatic victory for KKR as they won with 19 balls to spare and maintained their domination of Royal Challengers Bengaluru at the Chinnaswamy, winning their sixth successive match at RCB’s home. This is their second win in as many matches this season. KKR thus moved to the second spot on the points table behind Chennai Super Kings. RCB suffered their second defeat in three games and how they lost will leave them very disappointed.
KKR Magic On The Field: Kolkata Knight Riders’s Highlights
KKR bowled magically on a good pitch, using short-of-the-length off-cutters to restrict RCB to 182/6 boosted by a superb unbeaten 83 by former skipper Virat Kohli, who batted through the innings. Cameron Green and Dinesh Karthik contributed breezy cameos and with Kohli anchoring the innings, hitting four boundaries and four maximums, RCB recovered well to put up a decent total. Andre Russell was the best KKR bowler with 2-29.
Chasing 183, KKR came out firing on all cylinders with West Indies all-rounder Sunil Narine hammering 47 off 22 balls in his 500th T20 game while Phil Salt contributed a 20-ball 30.
Narine had not scored much in the last few matches but made the occasion count as he unleashed the power and smashed the ball to all corners of the ground. Pacers Mohammed Siraj, Yash Dayal, and Alzarri Joseph faced the brunt of their assault. Joseph conceded 34 runs off two overs while Siraj gave away 46 off three and Dayal finished with 1-46 off four overs.
Narine was the first to go as he was bowled by Mayank Dagar with a superb yorker on off-stump that crashed into the base of the stump. Salt out was soon caught by Cameron Green off Vijaykumar Vyshak, who was the best RCB bowler on the night as he finished with 1-23 off four overs.
Down 92/2, KKR were in a spot of bother, but Venkatesh Iyer and Shreyas Iyer came together to raise 74 runs for the third wicket, with Iyer doing the bulk of the scoring. He scored 50 off 30 balls, despite being hampered by back trouble, as he struck three boundaries and four maximums. Shreyas gave him good company, scoring 39 off 24 balls.
