Former Mumbai Indians skipper/captain Rohit Sharma completed 1,000 runs against Delhi Capitals in match No.20 of the Indian Premier League(IPL) 2024 on March 7, 2024. Rohit failed to smash his first 50 of the IPL 2024 as the veteran Indian opener was cleaned up by spinner Axar Patel. After Axar removed Rohit for 49 off 24 balls, pacer Anrich Nortje bagged the massive wicket of Suryakumar Yadav in his comeback game at the Wankhede Stadium. Delhi Capitals staged a comeback after MI openers dominated the powerplay.
However, spinner Axar Patel won his battle against Ishan Kishan (42) with a one-handed stunner after the powerplay. Skipper Hardik Pandya chipped in with 33-ball 39 balls before Tim David and Romario Shepherd powered MI to a gigantic total. Batting on 45 off 21 balls, David was a mere spectator as power-hitter Shepherd smashed 32 runs in the final over bowled by pacer Anrich Nortje. Shepherd’s six-hitting masterclass propelled MI to 234-5 in 20 overs.
Leading DC’s response, Prithvi Shaw (66), Abishek Porel (41), and Tristan Stubbs (71) played crucial knocks for Delhi Capitals. However, DC mustered 205-8 in 20 overs as the Jasprit Bumrah-inspired side defeated the visitors by 29 runs. Speedster Bumrah completed 150 wickets in the IPL to seal Mumbai’s first win of the new season.
