Kelly Monaco Leaving General Hospital
Kelly Monaco, who has been playing the role of Sam McCall on ABC’s daytime drama General Hospital since 2003 is officially exiting the show. The actress who to date has appeared in more than 2,200 episodes is set to leave the soap opera sometime this fall. Monaco has been nominated for two Daytime Emmy Awards for her work and won the mirrorball trophy on the first season of Dancing with the Stars. News of Monaco’s exit first was reported by Soap Opera Network.
Why is Kelly Monaco Leaving General Hospital?
Monaco’s exit comes several months after The Bold & the Beautiful executive producer Brad Bell decided to off the character of Sheila Carter, as portrayed by Kimberlin Brown. Brown called the decision a “hard pill to swallow” – particularly in light of the fact that Bell later decided to resurrect her.
General Hospital remains a hotbed of changes behind the camera lens. Of course, there was the recent news last week of co-head writer Patrick Mulcahey’s exit at the start of the month. Chris Van Etten came back to join Elizabeth Korte in the writers’ room.
